Desolation Center

Jon Reiss has been a tremendous "secret weapon" in the battle to create a powerful film that can reach its largest potential audience in the complex digital landscape of today. From creatively strategizing the positioning of the project, to specific help with key personnel hires and fiscal sponsorship, advice on our website and social media, to insightful notes on the first show reel, Jon has been there for me and the film in a highly impactful way. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to rely on Jon’s depth of experience, invaluable personal relationships and unrivaled ability to “think outside the box office” to help take the Desolation Center project to its most exciting possible outcome. Stuart Swezey - Producer/Director

"Desolation Center" is a feature documentary about a series of guerilla music and performance events in remote and unusual locations that have now attained legendary status. Before Lollapalooza, Burning Man or Coachella, Desolation Center brought punk and industrial music fans in rented school buses into the Mojave Desert for performances that the LA Weekly described as “like some bizarre ritual at the end of the world.” Interviews include: Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten), Mark Pauline (Survival Research Laboratories), Michael Gira (Swans), Curt and Cris Kirkwood (Meat Puppets), Mike Watt (Minutemen/Firehose), and many other important alternative culture luminaries from the time.
